Over the decades, many of MUFON’s various state chapters published regional journals and newsletters of their own apart from The MUFON Journal. Over the years, many were lost to history. Some were mimeographed, or typed and photostatted and sent via U.S. Mail long before the days of the internet.
Many of the volunteers who used their time and energy in MUFON trying to discover the truth about UFOs are no longer with us. Some moved on to other endeavors. Others passed on. We owe a deep amount of gratitude towards these trailblazers.
Back in 2018, UFO Historian Isaac Koi, reached out to John Schussler, one of our founders, and asked if he could try to track down some of these publications and the publishers or their descendants to see if many of these items could be recovered for posterity.
Mr. Schussler graciously allowed Mr. Koi to track down these people by contacting various state directors. Mr. Koi was quite successful but encountered many roadblocks along the way. Some state directors were gone. New directors knew nothing of their state’s old journals. Some chapters never responded.
In the end, Mr. Koi received permission from various chapters to send many but not all of these publications to The Archives for the Unexplained in Sweden that collects historical data on various aspects of anomalous phenomena.
In June of 2024, MUFON’s Executive Director Dave MacDonald gave Mr. Koi authorization to publish the remaining newsletters in his possession where he could not find the original publishers. These journals use the MUFON name, Logo and MUFON cases, drawings, and photos so we see no issue in allowing AFU to publish these.
Mr. Koi has given MUFON the entire collection for our Project Aquarius Digital Library. The collection consists of hundreds of various state’s newsletters, magazines, and journals.
Thank you for your efforts, Mr. Koi.
